Walk through the garden first
Start at the entrance and follow the outdoor areas someone is likely to use. Note long grass, growth across paths, loose garden debris and beds needing attention. Then separate ordinary tidying from larger work, such as substantial pruning or removing a plant.
If you have photos or a written list showing the requested presentation, use those to explain the scope. Do not assume that a full garden redesign or severe cut-back is necessary. The aim is to agree specific work that addresses the actual request.
A practical preparation checklist
- Identify which lawns need mowing and which edges need attention.
- Mark the garden beds where weeds should be removed.
- Point out wanted plants, including small seedlings that resemble weeds.
- Specify any shrubs proposed for a light trim and the intended result.
- Clear movable toys, hoses and personal items from the work area.
- Arrange pets and explain gates, steps or restricted access.
- Check suitable green-bin space or request extra waste removal.
There is no need to complete the gardening yourself before asking for help. If the work area is difficult to access, describe that honestly. Photos are optional; broad views often explain more than a close-up of a single weed.
Give the date without assuming availability
Include the inspection date in your first enquiry and distinguish it from your preferred gardening date. Cuttings need an agreed destination. Standard onsite cleanup does not automatically include taking all garden waste away. A suitable green bin with available capacity may be useful, but its contents and limits must suit the material. Off-site green-waste removal is an extra that should be discussed with the quote.
If someone else needs to review the completed work, discuss private completion photos and the intended recipient in advance. Photographs can show the agreed areas, but they cannot promise a particular inspection decision.
